Connect your AI

Your coach, in OpenClaw.

How to connect your OpenClaw agent to your running data. Ask your agent in chat, or use two commands in a terminal, then sign in once. From then on it reads your training and your recovery, and writes sessions to your watch or your phone when you say yes. It can also check in with you on a schedule.

What you need

Before you start: PB-Runner is a free app for iPhone and Android, and it works with Apple Watch and Garmin. Install it, sign in, and record or sync a few runs first. Your AI can only read the runs that are in your account.

An OpenClaw agent you can chat with, and a PB-Runner account: the app on your phone, signed in with Apple on iPhone or Google on Android. Your agent connects to PB-Runner at this address:

https://mcp.pb-runner.com/mcp

Two settings matter. The transport is streamable-http and the sign-in is OAuth. If the transport is left out, OpenClaw uses SSE, which does not work with PB-Runner. Both ways in below include them.

The app is free, on the App Store for iPhone and Google Play for Android. For a Garmin watch there is a PB-Runner watch app on the Connect IQ Store.

Your agent can only see runs once they are in PB-Runner, so set the app up first:

  • On iPhone, runs you record with PB-Runner, on Apple Watch or iPhone, arrive on their own. Runs from other apps and watches, new or old, are brought in from the app’s Sync Runs screen once they are in Apple Health: an Apple Watch run from any app, a Garmin through Garmin Connect’s Apple Health link, Strava or another app.
  • On Android, you record your runs in the PB-Runner app.
  • On a Garmin watch, a session you play with the PB-Runner Connect IQ app comes straight back to PB-Runner. A run recorded in the Garmin’s own apps does not: on iPhone it comes through Apple Health as above, and older ones through the CSV below.
  • Older Garmin history, on either phone: export your running activities from Garmin Connect on the web as a CSV and upload it at pb-runner.com/import. It comes across summary-level, with no route or splits.

Full details are in the getting started guide and the FAQ.

Ask your agent

Recommended

The simplest way, and the way we connected our own agent: ask in chat. Copy this and send it to your agent:

“Add the PB-Runner MCP server at https://mcp.pb-runner.com/mcp using the streamable-http transport and OAuth, then log in.”

Your agent sends you a sign-in link. Open it on any device, your phone is fine, and sign in with Apple or Google, using the same account as the PB-Runner app.

The account is the part worth slowing down for. A different Apple or Google account than the one in the app points your agent at the wrong running history.

There is also a PB-Runner skill on ClawHub that gives your agent these setup steps and how to coach from your data. Install it with:

openclaw skills install @pb-runner/pb-runner

If OpenClaw runs on another machine

If you sign in on a different device from the one OpenClaw runs on, for example on your phone while OpenClaw runs on a laptop, a home server or a VPS, the page ends on an address that cannot be reached. That is expected.

Copy that whole address from your browser’s address bar and send it back to your agent, within 10 minutes. Your agent finishes the connection from there.

Or use the terminal

If you would rather type commands, two do the job. OpenClaw’s docs say these commands need the OpenClaw gateway stopped while they run, so stop it first and start it again afterwards.

  1. Stop the OpenClaw gateway.
  2. Add PB-Runner:
openclaw mcp add pbrunner --url https://mcp.pb-runner.com/mcp --transport streamable-http --auth oauth
  3. Sign in, with the same Apple or Google account as the PB-Runner app:
    openclaw mcp login pbrunner
  4. Start the OpenClaw gateway again.
  5. Check it worked:
    openclaw mcp status --verbose

On a machine with no browser, sign in on any other device. The page ends on an address that cannot be reached: copy the code= value from it and run this, within 10 minutes:

openclaw mcp login pbrunner --code <code>

Start coaching

Once connected, your agent can read your recent runs, your recovery and today’s planned session, and adjust your plan with you. It never receives your GPS routes or coordinates, though a run or race name can mention a place. Start anywhere, for example:

“Look at my recent training and tell me what you’d work on first.”

When it writes a plan, your agent drafts the sessions first, and PB-Runner asks it to save them only after you say yes. They then appear in the app’s Schedule and play on your watch or your phone: an Apple Watch, a Garmin with the PB-Runner Connect IQ app, or the phone app itself. If you answer more than 5 minutes after the draft, it has to draft again first.

Ideas to schedule

Your agent can run a request for you on a schedule. Ask it in plain words, as these three do, and change the times and the place it sends to suit you.

“Every morning at 6:30, check my recovery and today’s PB-Runner session, tell me if I should adjust it, and send it to me on Telegram.”
“Every evening at 8, check PB-Runner for a run today. If there is one, compare it with my recent runs and send me three lines on how it went.”
“Every Sunday at 6pm, look at my last week of running and my recovery in PB-Runner, then draft next week’s sessions and ask me before saving them.”

A scheduled check-in can suggest changes to your plan. PB-Runner asks your agent to save them only after you say yes.

Staying connected

Access renews itself, so there is nothing to do day to day. If your agent goes more than 7 days without using PB-Runner, sign in again: ask your agent, or run this:

openclaw mcp login pbrunner

OpenClaw quietly leaves a signed-out server out of its replies. So if PB-Runner stops appearing in a scheduled message, check this first.

When something is wrong

  • PB-Runner’s tools fail to load: update OpenClaw to the latest release first, then try again.
  • The connection never works: check the transport is streamable-http. With the transport left out, OpenClaw uses SSE, which does not work with PB-Runner.
  • Your agent connects but cannot see your training: it signed in as a different account. Sign out of pb-runner.com in your browser, then ask your agent to log in to PB-Runner again, or run openclaw mcp login pbrunner, and sign in with the account you use in the app.
  • The sign-in ended on an address that cannot be reached: that is expected when you sign in on a different device from the one OpenClaw runs on. Send the whole address to your agent within 10 minutes, or sign in again if more time has passed.
  • PB-Runner is missing from a scheduled message: check your agent is still signed in, as Staying connected above explains.
